Any healthy boy or girl between the ages of 14 and 17 is eligible to apply to the Devil Pups citizenship program that resides in the states of California, Arizona and Nevada. The requirements are as follows:
(1) Must pass a Physical Fitness Test (2) Have a desire to participate (3) Cannot have asthma (no exceptions) (4) Cannot be on any type of medication for any reason (5) Must have a physician’s medical exam; will accept Service Organization or School Physical if completed in the last year.
After these qualifications have been met, acceptance is then based on a first-come, first-served basis. DEVIL PUPS, Inc. PHYSICAL FITNESS TEST Sequence, Description of Events, and General Information 1. SIT UPS -WILL BE DONE AS CRUNCHES Equipment – mats or grassy area. Position – To do a correct Sit-Up Crunch, lay on your back with your feet flat on the deck, and your butt close to your heels. Your arms should be crossed on your chest or your stomach. They cannot come off of your chest/stomach during the PFT. To do a correct crunch, raise your upper body off of the deck until your forearms or elbows touch your thighs. Go back down until your shoulder blades touch the deck. That is one crunch. FEMALES – Position is not modified. 2. PUSH UPS Equipment – exercise is to be performed with competitor on concrete or asphalt surface. Position – hands are placed palms down on the deck directly under the shoulders. Body is held in a straight line from the shoulders to the feet with no part of the body touching the deck. Elbows are locked with arms forming a straight line from the shoulders to the wrist. Feet may be no more than one foot apart. Counter lines face down on the deck opposite the competitor placing his palm down under the competitor’s chest. Execution – The competitor lowers the body by bending the elbows and bringing the torso downward until the chest touches the back of the counters hand. The body must maintain a straight line from the shoulders to the feet. The competitor then returns to the starting position again maintaining the body in a straight line. The elbows lock straight before the next repetition begins. Time limit – No time limit for this exercise. IMPORTANT – 1. Sternum must touch counters hand. 2. No part of the body other than the hands, feet and chest may touch the deck. 3. Body must be maintained in a straight line from the shoulders to the feet. 4. Arms must lock straight to complete return to starting position. 5. No rest pause is permitted. Exercise must be completed with continuous motion. FEMALES – Modified position allows females to have knees on ground in place of feet. 3. PULL UPS Equipment – Pull up bars that are approximately 1 ½ inches outside diameter. Bars should be taped with white adhesive type tape. Resin/firm grip is permitted. Position – hang from the bar with palms either away from or toward the body, thumbs curled under and around the bar. Arms and legs must be completely extended with feet off the deck. Ankles may be crossed to keep legs together. Execution – Pull body straight up placing the chin over the bar. Return to starting position with arms fully extended. Time Limit – There is no time limit for this event. IMPORTANT – 1. Chin must be placed over the bar. 2. Arms must be completely extended when body is lowered to starting position. 3. Legs must remain extended at all times. 4. No swinging of the body is permitted. Partner will hold arm extended in front of competitor to keep body alignment straight during the exercise. Competitors are permitted to rest in the down position only. FEMALES – May hang for time. Starting position is with chin over the bar. Time continues until arms are straight. 4. ONE MILE RUN Equipment – The run is normally performed on grass, a track, or on asphalt. Stopwatches are required to time the event. Position – Runners may use a standing distance type start or a crouched sprinters start. No part of the body may extend over the starting line. No device such as starting blocks or depressions may be used to assist the competitors. Execution – Each competitor runs the one mile distance. The competitors total elapsed time for the event is clocked and recorded as he/she crosses past the pylon. Time Limit – Scored in ratio to total elapsed time required to complete the run. IMPORTANT – 1. The run is continuous without stopping. 2. If competitor fails to complete the run he/she receives no points. 3. Provided adequate and timers are available more than one competitor may run the event at one time. 4. Running area should be level. FEMALES – No modifications.
